Crash occurred in Mill Spring on Friday
MILL SPRING—On Friday, June 7, at approximately 2 p.m., troopers with the North Carolina Highway Patrol engaged in a high-speed motorcycle chase that ended in one fatality.
The chase ran through parts of Rutherford and Polk County and ended in Mill Spring after the motorcyclist lost control of his bike as he approached the intersection of Hwy 9. North and Silver Creek Road, and then crashed into two parked vehicles in the parking lot of Deb’s Mini Mart. The motorcyclist, whose name has not yet been released, died on impact.
Officials said that troopers attempted to pull over the motorcyclist in the Lake Lure area, but he did not stop. Troopers chased the motorcyclist as he continued to elude officers.
No other injuries were reported.
Polk County Sheriff’s Department shared a post online explaining that motorists should use caution in the area on Friday.
This intersection has been the site of several other motorcycle accidents over the years, most recently on March 17 of this year, when two riders were critically injured.
This is a developing story. The Bulletin will provide additional details as they become available.
