TRYON—Ben Sellers, Brian Boles and Matt Laughridge are all professional artists who grew up in Tryon, and all have remained in the area. For the past couple of years, they have all been instructors at Tryon Fine Arts Center’s SASY Summer Camp program. 

SASY, an acronym for Summer Arts Series for Youth, offers a one-week arts camp for children aged 5 to 13. This immersive and creative environment is designed to allow campers to explore various forms of visual and performing arts. The camp, scheduled for June 17-21, promises a week of artistic discovery and fun.

Ben, Brian and Matt all teach visual arts classes. Their elementary art teacher, SASY Camp Director Clara Rogers, feels they are a wonderful addition to the camp staff. 

“Each one of these fellows adds a different dimension to our learning about art, and we are very fortunate to have each of them in our program,” Rogers says.

Rogers went on to say that she was thrilled to see how talented these gentlemen and artists had become and that their talents and genuine love of art flows effortlessly to the campers while enhancing each child’s capabilities.

A new addition to this year’s SASY program is a Teacher Art Show. Each teacher has submitted artwork for the show, which will be displayed in the Pavilion from June 11 through June 21. A reception for student and teacher artwork will be held on June 21 at 4:30 p.m.
