TRYON—In recognition of Memorial Day, and with the help of the Polk County Memorial Honor Guard, former Chair of the Tryon Cemetery Commission Jerry Soderquist, former member Ambrose Mills, and concerned citizens of Tryon planted 80-90 American flags on the graves of Veterans in Tryon Cemetery.
Memorial Day, which fell on Monday, May 27, is a day of reflection. The words of Henry Wadsworth Longfellow may say it best:
“Your silent tents of green
we deck with flagrant flowers;
Yours has the suffering been,
the memory shall be ours.”
