TRYON—Singer-songwriter Alice Wallace of Nashville, Tennessee, makes her first trip to Polk County to perform at the Tryon Fine Arts Center amphitheater on Thursday, May 30, for TFAC’s Americana Concert Series. 

“I usually say that I play country music, but it’s not the kind of country music that you hear on the radio,” says Wallace. “It’s more influenced by the ’70s country-rock women like Emmylou Harris and Linda Ronstadt or more these days like Brandi Carlisle or Patti Griffin.”

Wallace says she grew up in a musical family, so was exposed to music early on.

“I started singing as soon as I could talk, so it’s just been a natural progression,” she says. 

Wallace attended the University of Florida, earned a journalism degree, and started working in the newspaper business but continued to perform on the side. When her parents decided to move from Florida back to their southern California home, Wallace went with them and decided to become a full-time musician. 

“At some point, I just said life is too short. I quit my job, I moved back in with my parents, and I just started hitting the road and I started playing music full-time,” she says.

Wallace moved to Nashville four years ago. She’s released five solo albums, including the brand new “Here I Am.” Wallace has toured the US and Europe and has played Asheville and Charlotte, but this will be her first performance in Tryon. 

 Hers is the fifth and final concert in TFAC’s 2024 Americana Concert Series. Tickets can be purchased in advance for $10 at tryonarts.org or at the gate on the day of the show for $12. Beer, wine, and other beverages will be available for purchase, and there’s a food truck at every concert. The show starts at 6:30 p.m.
