TRYON—The Rotary Club of Tryon Foundation recently awarded a $1,500 grant to the nonprofit Pisgah Legal Services to help provide free civil legal assistance to people in Polk County. 

“This grant—made possible by our generous members and supporters—will enable Pisgah Legal to render legal aid and advocacy to help people with low incomes in Polk County meet their basic needs and improve their lives,” said Skip Taylor of the Rotary Club of Tryon Foundation. “We are pleased to assist Pisgah Legal’s work in preventing domestic violence and homelessness and helping Polk County families secure health insurance and financial stability.” 

Though Pisgah Legal does not yet have an office in Polk County, people in need can apply for aid online or by phone at the organization’s Rutherfordton or Hendersonville offices. The nonprofit’s new Justice Bus, a mobile legal office, will also make scheduled stops in Polk County in the coming months. 

“We are grateful to the Tryon Rotary Foundation for recognizing the unique services we offer and supporting our efforts to combat poverty in Polk County,” said Pisgah Legal Services Executive Director Jim Barrett. “We helped more than 300 people in Polk County last year, including 128 children.”

Since 1978, Pisgah Legal Services has worked to help people with low incomes seek justice and meet their basic needs. Pisgah Legal Services provides a broad array of free civil legal services in 11 WNC counties and offers health and immigration law services in 18 counties.
