Lake Orion— Burton B. Blackwell passed away on May 10, 2024, at his son Daniel’s home in Lake Orion, MI. He was born in Mill Spring, NC, on June 18, 1931, to Burton and Lula Cowart Blackwell. He spent most of his adult life in Michigan, having briefly lived in Landrum, SC, in recent years. Burton was beloved by his family and friends.
Burton proudly served in the Army after WWII, assisting in the cleanup of Germany’s war-damaged cities. He also served for a time in the Air Force and Navy. His work life consisted of working in the automotive industry and die-casting.
Burton was preceded in death by his parents Burton and Lula, his wife Patricia, and three children, Iris Lynn and Marilyn, and step-daughter Joyce. He is survived by his sons Daniel (Marrie), Joseph, and Ricky (Laura). Burton is also survived by three sisters, Evelyn Farmer (Henry), Louise Sawyer, and Reba Williams (Wayne), and one brother, Michael (Reda). Burton had numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to acknowledge his niece Heather and her son Braedon, for all the care and love she gave to him in his last years.
A memorial service will be held at Mill Spring First Baptist Church on May 23, 2024, at 1 p.m. with an interment of his ashes next to his wife Pat. The service will be officiated by Rev. Joey Pitts.
