COLUMBUS—This week, the Town of Columbus honored Paul’s Barber Shop with a proclamation for its 25th year in business.

The shop opened its doors in downtown Columbus on May 11, 1999, and has been a staple of the community ever since. Owner Paul Heyer started working as a barber in Hendersonville in 1997 before bringing Paul’s Barber Shop to Columbus in 1999. Frank Carter, who retired from Paul’s Barber Shop in 2020, was also credited in the proclamation. 

Heyer said the proclamation was unexpected. “The mayor came in, and he asked how long we’d been in business, and I thought it was just a normal conversation,” he said. “So I was surprised by the whole thing.”

The shop has been located at 40 E. Mills St. for the past 25 years. Paul’s Barber Shop was noted in the proclamation as not only a place to get a haircut but a place where men can socialize, take a break from their daily routine, meet like-minded people and build friendships with other men in the community, fostering a sense of camaraderie and belonging. 

“I wouldn’t want to be anywhere but here,” Heyer added. “I have the best customers a man could ask for. This town is all about family.”

Mayor Patrick McCool, speaking on behalf of the Columbus Council, extended his warmest congratulations to Paul’s Barber Shop on its 25-year milestone. He thanked Heyer for his dedication to the community and acknowledged that the shop’s success is a testament to the strong bonds among Columbus residents. 

Heyer expressed his gratitude toward the town and his customers, “Thank you to Columbus, the mayor and the rest of the council for a great 25 years.”
