Polk County has earned the No. 2 seed in the 1A West Regional girls soccer playoffs and will open the postseason at home against Mountain Heritage.

The Wolverines (11-4-3) could potentially be at home for the first four rounds of the 1A playoffs per brackets released Friday by the North Carolina High School Athletic Association. Polk earned its high seeding thanks to its record against one of the tougher schedules in the 1A West field.

The state playoffs begin Monday, and Polk will welcome a familiar face to Tennant Stadium as former Western Highlands Conference foe Mountain Heritage visits.

The Cougars finished 4-11-1 this season and enter on a four-match losing slide. Mountain Heritage is led by freshman Kai’ana Stella and junior Eily Rule, with Stella scoring five goals in the Cougars’ final five matches.

A potential challenging second-round matchup would await Polk with a win, with the Wolverines hosting either 15th-seeded Elkin (17-5-1) or 18th-seeded Gray Stone Day (11-4-2).
