TRYON—The Spring Fever Family Fun Fest was held at Harmon Field on Saturday, April 27, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. The annual event featured food, fun and education in acknowledgment of April being Child Abuse Prevention and Sexual Assault Awareness Month.

The event included a variety of activities such as informational booths, face painting, T-shirts, music, games, prizes, balloon animals, a caricaturist, bounce houses and free giveaways.

“The purpose of this beautiful day is for the kids to have fun and also for people in the area to learn about the many services available to them,” said organizer Kim Wilson, Senior Program Manager of PC Health & Human Services.

Organizations from all over western North Carolina handed out information to local citizens, letting them know about their organizations and what they do. RHA Health Services, St. Luke’s Hospital, The Meeting Place, WNCsource Children’s Services, the Cub Scouts, Beearlync.org, Early Headstart, Kiwanis of Tryon, The Free Clinics, The Hope Chest, VAYA Healthcare, Youthvillages.org, Blue Ridge Health, Guardian Ad Litem, Alexander Youth Network, and Apsire Polk County all worked tables filled with coloring books, bubbles, books, and items to entertain the kids in attendance. 

Executive Director of Steps of Hope, Diane Nelson, said, “Two years ago, we had 1,700 people come out, and today is another wonderful opportunity to get information in a casual way about the resources available to families in the area and showcase what a wonderful area this is to raise children.”

The Polk County Community Child Protection Team, Polk County Community Foundation, Steps to HOPE, Polk County Division of Social Services and Polk County Public Health and Outreach sponsored the festival.
