LANDRUM—On Saturday, May 4, the annual ‘Quilters Rock! City-Wide Quilt Show’ will take place throughout downtown Landrum from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. This is the fourth year the event has taken place, and it has drawn many quilting enthusiasts to the area in previous years.

Quilts will be displayed around downtown Landrum, including at Elaine’s Attic, Big John’s Antiques and Landrum Presbyterian Church. Quilters may enter a quilt free of charge. The quilt show will coincide with downtown Landrum’s Dark Corner Classic Car Show, which is sponsored by the Landrum Area Business Association and the City of Landrum. 

Organizer Robin Kaluahine, the owner of Elaine’s Attic, a local quilt store that sells fabrics, precuts, kits, patterns, rulers, and wide-backs, says this will be a fun event for the whole family.

“We started the show when stores were allowed to reopen (during the pandemic) as a way to attract shoppers to Landrum to stroll the streets and visit the shops here,” she says. “It’s a great event for the whole family to stroll downtown, visit the Dark Corner Classic, and check out the quilts. Our show is a display of local quilters’ accomplishments.”

A quilters’ group meets monthly at Elaine’s Attic to work on quilts for donation to a children’s home in Black Mountain, N.C., and those quilts will also be on display.

“The children (at Black Mountain Children’s Home) get to choose which one they want, and they get to keep it,” Kaluahine says.
