Green Creek— Jerry Michael Waddell, 71, of Green Creek, passed away on Saturday afternoon, April 20, 2024, at St. Luke’s Hospital.
Born in Spartanburg, South Carolina, he was the son of the late Jerry Lee Waddell and Marion Poteat Waddell. Jerry was a veteran of the United States Army. Following his service to his country, Jerry earned an associate degree from Spartanburg Tech. in HVAC and later opened his own company, Waddell & Son’s Heating and Air.
Jerry enjoyed fishing, camping, and riding ATVs with his boys and was an avid North Carolina Tarheel fan. His pride and joy were his grandchildren. Jerry was a member of the New Hope Methodist Church in Green Creek.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Michael Waddell; a sister, Ellen Westbrook; and a brother, Dean Waddell. Surviving is his loving wife of 54 years, Lynn Johnson Waddell; two sons, Eric Waddell (J.J.) of Green Creek and Scott Waddell (Briana) of Forest City; five grandchildren, Reagan Liles (Garrett), Claudia Shields (Mason), Grant Waddell, Harrison Waddell, and Lydia Waddell.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, April 23, 2024, from 1:00 p.m. to 1:45 p.m. at New Hope Methodist Church. A funeral service will follow at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday at the church with Reverend Carroll Flack and Reverend Mitch Wilson officiating. The burial will follow in the church cemetery with military honors conducted by the Polk County Veterans Memorial Honor Guard.
