TRYON—On Friday morning, two more outstanding volunteers were presented certificates in front of the Tryon Coffeehouse, inducting them into the Second Wind Hall of Fame.
Conserving Carolina nominated Don Dicey and Gregg Miner for induction into the Second Wind Hall of Fame, and the Board of the Second Wind Hall of Fame recognized their contributions to the local community and accepted the nominations.
The mission of Second Wind is to identify outstanding volunteers who contribute so much to the quality of life in our community and to recognize retirees sixty years and over who have caught a ‘second wind,’ continuing a life of service beyond retirement while others paused to rest.
Neither Miner nor Dicey knew they were being inducted, so both men were surprised when Second Wind board member Liz Nortsrom gave them their certificates announcing their elections.
“Ultimately, you both do your work because you believe in restoring the habitat here,” said Community Engagement Director for Conserving Carolina Pam Torlina of Miner and Dicey. “You give your time to so many organizations and teach so many important lessons on how to do their part. And we at Conserving Carolina wanted to thank you both.”
Miner volunteers for several organizations, including Conserving Carolina and Polk County Appearance Commission.
“I’m flabbergasted, first, by such a great turnout,” he said of his induction. “It’s so wonderful to see so many people here this morning. I can’t believe I’m getting this, and it’s really an honor to be inducted.”
Dicey, who also volunteers for several organizations, such as Conserving Carolina and Tryon Parks Commission, said, “I’m very much surprised. I had no idea this was happening. This is such an outstanding community, and I’m honored to be inducted along with Greg. We try to do the work that honors the morals and ethics of our area and to be associated with wonderful organizations like Conserving Carolina.”
The Second Wind Hall of Fame, a 501(c)(3) organization, warmly welcomes nominations for induction. Forms can be requested by emailing Carol Browning at carolbrowning72@gmail.com.
