COLUMBUS—One person is dead and another was wounded after a shooting that took place on Thursday, April 11, at the Ashley Meadows apartment complex in Columbus.
One person is in custody related to the shooting, officials say.
Deputies with the Polk County Sheriff’s Office arrived at the scene at 1:13 p.m. after receiving a call about the shooting at 1:09 p.m. Chief Jeff Ramsey says officers were able to locate the suspected shooter upon arrival. Officials have not yet released the names of the victims or the suspect.
He says it is unknown if the person wounded was an intentional target of the shooter and that they were transported by EMS to a nearby hospital with injuries. There is no current danger to the public.
Ashley Meadows is an apartment complex located near the intersection of Hwy. 108 and US 74, just a short distance from Polk County High School.
“We want to thank all of our law enforcement, emergency responders, and E-911 partners for their hard work and diligence during this response,”,said Sheriff Tim Wright on Thursday.
