TRYON—The 17th Annual Kirby Cup Soccer Camp is set for Tuesday, June 11 through Saturday, June 15 at Harmon Field in Tryon.
This free event for boys and girls in grades 3-8 (ages 8-13) has been funded by a Kirby Harmon Field Fund grant at the Polk County Community Foundation. Applications will be available on Friday, March 8 at the Polk County Middle School office and all Polk County elementary school offices, as well as at YMCA / Polk Recreation soccer league games.
The mission of the camp is to teach fundamental soccer skills and create global awareness by exploring other countries’ heritages. Players are divided into four teams representing countries from different continents. This year, New Zealand will take on teams from Morocco, Vietnam and Costa Rica.
Each day, players will perform basic soccer skills, play in a scrimmage and then learn about each country. The camp ends with a round-robin tournament and picnic on Saturday.
All applications must be mailed in, and enrollment is limited to 72 players on a first come-first serve basis.
