CAMPOBELLO – Margie Allison Collins, 92, of Campobello, passed away Saturday evening, February 24, 2024, at her home with her daughter Janice by her side.

Born in Gaffney, South Carolina, she was the daughter of the late Boyce Lee Allison, Sr. and Raymoth Jones Allison.  Margie was the wife of the late Hoyt Kentwood Collins who passed away in 2016. Margie graduated from North Greenville Junior College, Furman University and mastered in history at Converse College. Many years were spent teaching in elementary schools nearby and at Greer High School.  Margie was an avid reader, particularly biographical works, and she enjoyed as much time with family as possible. Having come from a family of ten children, then having married into a family of eleven, there was never a dull moment. Margie most recently attended First Baptist Church of Tryon and especially liked the sermons of Dr. Jeff Harris, pastor.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Jerry Allison and Fred Ray Allison; two sisters, Rita Allison and Barbara Keller.

Surviving are two daughters, Janice Collins Farrell (Jack) of Campobello, with whom Margie lived the past eight years, and Kathy Collins (Charlie) of Chattanooga, Tennessee; two grandchildren, John Collins, Josh Collins (Suzanne), and great- grandchildren Linus Collins and Norman Collins; five brothers, Edgar Allison (Vivian), Boyce Allison (Mary), Jimmy Allison (Frances), Danny Allison (Judy) and Mike Allison (Diane) all of Gaffney, South Carolina. She was Aunt Margie to dozens of nieces and nephews.

Margie had a love for Lenora’s Legacy, the homeplace where she and Hoyt lived for a few months after their wedding on August 12, 1951. The homeplace was always special, serving as a gathering place for many large family reunions. Since 2021, Margie, Jack and Janice have made Lenora’s Legacy their home, and Margie’s final days on this earth were spent there.

We graciously invite family and friends to join us for an informal “Homecoming” drop-in at Lenora’s Legacy, 10490 New Cut Road, Campobello, South Carolina either Saturday, March 2, from 11 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. or Sunday, March 3, from 11 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Please, no suits, ties or fancy clothing. Comfortable, warm attire and sturdy footwear would be more appropriate. Parking is ample, as are restrooms, since this was the social event venue created from the family peach farm by Janice and Jack in 2000.

Margie will be joining the love of her life, Hoyt Kentwood Collins, at the graveside at Motlow Creek Baptist Church cemetery, a mile south on New Cut Road, Campobello, South Carolina at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, March 2.  Dr. Keith Franklin, a cherished family friend, will be officiating. Everyone who loved Margie is welcome to come to the graveside and join us at Lenora’s Legacy afterwards.

Margie often expressed her concern for the poor and hungry in the immediate area and around the world.
