COLUMBUS—Vibes Spa has opened its new location in Columbus, offering Polk County new options for rest and relaxation. Vibes recently relocated from Landrum.

Owner Rhonda Giles has been a massage therapist for eight years. Growing up in Campobello, she learned the ins and outs of small business ownership from her parents. Giles’ mother founded the Tryon Tryon Health & Fitness Club and has run it for the past 25 years, and her father was the president of RL Jordan Oil, the owners of the Hot Spot gas station and convenience store chain. Giles knew from working with her parents that she wanted to be an entrepreneur.

The original Vibes location opened in Landrum in November 2020.

“It was not a good location, it had terrible parking and not enough space,” said Giles. “So we moved to Columbus in December because I want to continue growing the business, and I had the opportunity to move into a brand new, bigger, better space in a better location, and I got to design the layout and make it really work for our needs.”

Among the therapy services offered are deep tissue, Thai, hot stone and prenatal massage, along with manual lymphatic drainage and Swedish massage. Each massage therapist at Vibes offers their own style and approach. The spa also hopes to add a nail technician and esthetician to its team, as well as even more massage therapists. 

Giles also hopes to open additional locations in Boiling Springs and Greer in the future. 

“I want to work with the cancer survivor who had lymph nodes removed and needs help draining the fluid that builds up. The athlete who wants to perform better in their sport. I want to make a real difference,” Giles said. “That’s the kind of work I love doing. Impactful work that makes life better. I always joke and say that I would be bored to death just rubbing lotion on people all day. I love how many different things that massage can truly help that so many people don’t know about.

“We want every experience at Vibes to be impactful, not just to your physical body, but also to improve your day and mood as a whole. Life is stressful, busy and hectic, and for the time that you are here you can check out of that, just relax and let that go.”
