Landrum basketball teams face off against Region opponents

LANDRUM—Landrum High School’s boys and girls varsity basketball teams had a successful week as they faced off against a pair of Region opponents to continue their winning streaks.
On Tuesday night, the Landrum boys hosted the Greenville Tech Charter Warriors and won decisively with a 74-51 score. The Cardinals dominated from the beginning, building a 17-2 first-quarter lead and a 44-8 halftime lead.
Coach Lyn Smith’s team then faced the Blacksburg Wildcats on the road Wednesday night and emerged victorious with an impressive 86-73 win, pushing their winning streak to eight consecutive games. The Cardinals, led by Franklin Davis’s 20.6 points per game, are currently ranked #6 in the 2A rankings.
Meanwhile, the Landrum girls also had a successful night against Greenville Tech Charter, winning 71-23 and putting their winning streak at four in a row. The Cardinal girls, led by Savannah Brown, who broke the 1000-point mark in her previous game, built a decisive 46-12 halftime lead.
However, their winning streak was broken the next night on the road against the defending Region champion the Blacksburg Lady Wildcats with a 50-65 loss. The loss was the first in the Region, making their overall record 15-3, 3-1.
The Lady Cardinals’ next game was set for Friday, January 19, at 6 p.m. at home versus Greer Middle College. The Cardinals’ game was scheduled for 7:30 p.m. versus #10 ranked Greer Middle College, in a highly anticipated matchup of top 10 teams.
