TRYON – Edith Mae Vehorn, 93, of Tryon, passed away Tuesday evening, October 31, 2023, at Ashlan Village in Spartanburg.
Born in Landrum, she was the daughter of the late Aaron Shehan and Mattie Edwards Shehan. Mrs. Vehorn was a graduate of Spartanburg High School, Emmanuel College and Cecil’s Business College. She went on to work in accounting. Mrs. Vehorn was a past president of the Order of the Eastern Star, active in the V.F.W. of Tryon and a member of First Baptist Church of Tryon.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, John Wesley Lankford, Sr.; siblings, Hubert Shehan, Hamp Shehan, Nell Ridings and Lucille Greene; a grandson, Mark Henson, Jr.
Surviving is her husband of 22 years, John Thomas Vehorn; four sons, John Wesley Lankford, Jr. (Marilyn) of Spartanburg, Mark Henson (Barbara Lyles) of Columbus, Steve Henson (Tracy) of Landrum and Joe Henson (Tina) of Spartanburg; nine grandchildren, John W. Lankford, III, Laura Williams, Andrew Lankford, Amelia Stiever, Olivia Henson, Bryan Henson, Cristin Swofford, Joey Henson and Jordan Henson. Also surviving are fourteen great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends Saturday morning, November 4, 2023 from 10:00 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. in the McFarland Funeral Chapel.
A funeral will follow at 11:00 a.m. at the chapel with Reverend Seth Buckley officiating.
A private burial will follow in Tryon City Cemetery.
