TRYON—A veteran elementary school administrator will serve as Tryon Elementary School’s principal for the remainder of the 2023-24 academic year.
Mark Robertson has been chosen as interim principal at Tryon. He will fill the vacancy created by the retirement of Dr. Cari Maneen, whose last day at Tryon Elementary will be Oct. 31.
“On behalf of Polk County Schools, I want to congratulate Dr. Maneen on her retirement and thank her for many years of service as an outstanding educator here in Polk County,” said Polk County Schools Superintendent Aaron Greene.
Robertson has more than a decade of experience as an elementary school principal, serving at schools in North and South Carolina. At his most recent stop in McDowell County, he helped an elementary school raise its state report card grade from a 49 to a 68 and has led schools to numerous awards and recognitions.
Robertson holds a Master’s in Educational Administration from Coastal Carolina.
“During this transition, we feel fortunate to have secured Mark Robertson as interim principal through the remainder of this academic year,” Greene said. “His wealth of experience in similar administrative roles will serve the students and staff of Tryon Elementary well.”
Polk County Schools will conduct a formal search this spring for a new Tryon Elementary principal.
