Jennifer Fisher of Columbus competed in the Ascent at Mountain Air 5K in Burnsville, N.C., on Saturday, October 7.
Fisher finished in first place for female runners, setting a record in the process, and completed the 5K with a time of 30 minutes and 29 seconds. She broke the previous record in the Masters Female category by over 2 minutes.
The Ascent at Mountain Air 5K is considered the steepest race in North Carolina, with a course climbing 1,800 feet in elevation. Earlier this year, Fisher placed first in the steepest race in South Carolina, the Sassafras Struggle.
“At 42 years old, she is still proof that age is just a number,” said her husband, Chad Fisher. “She is as strong as ever. I’m so proud of her!”
