Blythewood– Joseph “Joey” Earl Dedman, Jr., 65, passed away in his home in Blythewood, SC on July 17, 2023. Joey was born March 13, 1958, in Tryon, NC to Joseph and Margaret “Peggy” Dedman.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his beloved kitties, Grady, Nick, and Beau, commonly known as “The Boys”. Joey is survived by his wife, Ann Ameen Dedman; a brother, Kevin Dedman (Andrea) of Hendersonville, NC; sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, and many special friends.

Joey moved to Columbia, SC in the mid 80’s where he worked in Fleet Sales with Love Chevrolet. He met the love of his life in Charleston, SC and they were married in 1993. Ann and Joey enjoyed retirement, playing golf, birdwatching, gardening, and supporting charities they love.

A gathering of family and friends was held from 12:00 pm until 1:30 pm Friday, July 28, 2023, at Dunbar Funeral Home, Northeast Chapel. Casual dress is appreciated. Feel free to bring a written memory/quote/scripture in honor of Joey, which the family will bring home with them. Following the gathering the family honored Joey at the Windemere Club for 2 o’clock “Happy Hour”. A private burial of ashes will be held in his family cemetery in Columbus, NC officiated by Rev. Phillip Ashley.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Joey’s honor to Riverbanks Zoo & Gardens, 500 Wildlife Parkway, Columbia SC 29210; Carolina Wildlife Center, 5551 Bush River Road, Columbia, SC 29212; Ronald McDonald House Charities of the Carolinas, 2901 Colonial Dr, Columbia, SC 29203; or to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
