Sheriff Tim Wright presented the awards to the three deputies. Matthew DeRosa, Matthew Buckner and Vincent B. Scoggins received the award for “exhibiting exceptional acts of humanity, while being directly responsible for saving human life, and the extraordinary performance of duty.”

On November 29, 2022, the deputies were searching for an individual who had violated a restraining order and had committed an assault on a female. Upon being found, the perpetrator presented a boxcutter and proceeded to cut himself, severing an artery.

Working together, the deputies provided the necessary treatment to save the man’s life.

“I don’t want to downplay the work that you guys have done,” said Commissioner Andre Overhault. “You put your lives in danger to save someone else. I just wanted to thank you for all you’ve done.”

Commissioner Myron Yoder also thanked the deputies.

“I too want to say you’re saving lives,”  said Yoder. “Thank you for all that you do.”
