Springhill, FL– Maj. Frank Ortiz, USA, Ret. passed away June 21, 2023, at age 92 in Florida after a brief disabling illness.
Frank is survived by his wife, Audrey, his 4 children (John Ortiz, Frank Ortiz, Debra Ortiz-Frey and Valerie Ortiz), 8 grandchildren, and 3 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife, Jennie Ramos Ortiz, his granddaughter, Lydia Ortiz, son-in-law Peter Coe, and his siblings.
Frank and Audrey resided in Tryon for 22 years. Frank’s involvement in the civic affairs of the Tryon community included the Rotary Club of Tryon (President and volunteer), VFW, American Legion Post 250 (Chairman Scholarship Committee), AARP (President of the local chapter), Hospice (20 year volunteer), Tryon Country Club (President), House of Flags Museum (Founding Member and Board of Directors), and James B. Hunt Governors Award for Outstanding Volunteer Service
Baseball and Golf were Frank’s joys. He was proud that he had been selected to umpire in the Little League World Series.
Frank will be interred at Arlington National Cemetery on August 25th with full military honors.
