Columbus– Carl Rosenblad, 90, of Tryon Estates in Columbus, NC passed away on Tuesday, June 13, 2023. Born in Brooklyn, NY, he was the son of the late Oscar and Ann Hedin Rosenblad, who came to the US from Sweden in 1928. Carl earned a bachelor’s degree from Pace University in NYC and a master’s degree from The State University of NY at New Paltz. He was an excellent baseball player and was offered a minor league contract but he turned it down to pursue his lifelong passion for education. Carl was a teacher and later principal for over 35 years in the William Floyd School District on the South Shore of Eastern Long Island, NY. He met his wife, Frances (McClean) Rosenblad, through the school district (Fran predeceased him in 2015). He coached the 1962 William Floyd HS varsity baseball team to the Suffolk County, NY Class B Championship. After retiring, Carl and Fran moved from Wading River, NY to Columbus in 1988. Carl enjoyed his grandchildren, golfing, gardening, and keeping his yard in spotless shape. He was an active member of Columbus Presbyterian Church where he coordinated the collection of aluminum cans to provide clothes and school supplies for needy children in Guatemala. Many Columbus residents know Carl from seeing him gathering discarded aluminum cans along Highway 108 and U.S. 74 early each morning. Surviving is his sister, Sigrid Clark of Greer, SC; two sons, Ken Rosenblad of Berkeley, CA and Neil Rosenblad of Montpelier, VT; two daughters, Karen Hennessey of Boynton Beach, FL and Lynne Leonardi (Dan) of Sussex, WI; seven grandchildren, Kyle, Annie, Kaitlyn, Jenna, Caroline, Lauren, and Kirsten; and two great-grandchildren, Jack and Maeve.
A funeral will be held on Saturday, June 17, 2023, at 11 am in the Columbus Presbyterian Church, Columbus, NC with Pastor Phillip Ashley officiating. The family will receive friends prior to the service Saturday from 10-10:45 a.m. at the church. Burial will be in Center Moriches, NY.
