TRYON–Locals and visitors who enjoy poetry and spoken word now have an opportunity to meet with other like-minded folks over a cup of coffee. 

Open Mic Poetry started on Saturday, June 10 at the Tryon Coffeehouse in downtown Tryon, and will continue on the second Saturday of each month. 

Poets can read up to five minutes of their own work, or another’s poetry that inspires them. Those reading others’ works are asked to credit the author.

Participants are asked to keep language and material appropriate for a public coffee house atmosphere.

Open Mic Poetry takes place from 6 to 8 p.m. at Tryon Coffeehouse, located at 62 N. Trade St. in Tryon. Sign up starts at 5:30. The next event is planned for Saturday, July 8. For more information, contact Catherine Hunter (828) 505-9221.
