Local animal advocate recognized as WSPA-TV’s June 2023 Community Hero

Spartanburg TV station recognizes Dana Mayer for community service
LANDRUM—Dana Mayer of Paws, Prayers and Promises is being honored by the WSPA-TV television station in Spartanburg.
Mayer was chosen as the June 2023 Community Hero by the Caring for the Carolinas program with WSPA-TV. Mayer was awarded generous gift cards from the award’s sponsors, who included Ingles, Bath Fitter, Unclaimed Furniture and Hamrick’s clothing store.
Mayer was also treated to a luncheon that showcased the video and trailer for WSPA-TV’s piece covering the award, which will air later this month on the news station.
“Dana’s passion is for the animals. She works tirelessly on their behalf,” said Emmy Summers, President of Paws, Prayers & Promises. “Our mission is ‘helping the animals and their people in our community’ and Dana exemplifies the mission perfectly.”
“Dana is a community treasure,” Summers added.
Mayer also works in humane education, networks with other animal welfare organizations and created and maintains the organization’s website and Facebook pages, and works with Landrum Veterinary Hospital to provide care for all types of animals.
Paws, Prayers and Promises specializes in preparing kittens for socialization and gets them veterinary care and vaccinations before making them available for adoption. The organization also provides pet food, litter and vet care for low-income families and arranges foster care for families who can no longer provide for their pets. The organization also works with dogs.
