Hendersonville– Peter William Oesterlin, 90, of Hendersonville, entered into God’s kingdom on June 2nd, 2023. He was born January 15, 1933, in Milwaukee, WI to Gertrude and Ernst Oesterlin.
Peter, a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather is survived by his wife Kathy; son, Peter; daughter, Anne; 9 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; and his faithful and devoted dog, Isaiah.
Peter joined the Army as a lab technician and served his country for two years. Upon leaving the military, he went to General Theological Seminary to begin his service to the Lord as an Episcopal priest. He faithfully served in that capacity for sixty years. He built and started a church in White River Junction, Vermont early in his ministry. He began serving as a chaplain at the Veteran’s Hospital in Maryland and continued serving people in that capacity for over 30 years.
Peter and Joan (deceased) raised Peter Eric and Anne together through all the moves that his career involved which included moves to New York, Maryland, and eventually, Idaho. He also served the Lord in Ohio, New Mexico, Kansas, and North Carolina where he finally retired with his beloved wife, Kathy.
Peter was a truly great man whose impact will be forever felt by his family, who love him dearly. He was a selfless man whose passing left an unfillable gap in the hearts of his loved ones. His ability to sacrifice, provide, support, forgive, and love will be forever engrained in all he knew. He was a man of great integrity who made everyone around him feel cared for and loved.
A memorial service will take place at 10 a.m. on June 10th at Holy Cross Episcopal Church in Tryon, NC.
