Here we are! June’s slipped in like a whisper of silk…the month of weddings, summer days, iridescent June bugs and Queen Anne’s lace softly dancing along quiet lanes stretching to blue mountain horizons. 

A friend waits for me, ready to leap forth–perched on one of the fish pond ledges–a dark and handsome frog deciding it’s his spot now. I don’t mind. He’s greeted by me and by the small goldfish sparkling near his throne. 

A nearby crow has a laugh at it all. Crows have different sounds for everything, and I join in with him. Watermelons, hay fields, white daisies, lilies, laughing crows and regal frogs, blue hydrangeas floating over green lawns, honeysuckle sweetness…summer is settling down in the front porch rocking chair, waiting for evening fireflies. • Saluda Tailgate Market is Friday at the west city parking lot located off Main Street, 4:30-6 p.m. 
• There’s free breakfast at 0900 hours for Saluda-area veterans in the 28773 zip code at Saluda Fire Department on the first Wednesday of each month. The next one’s on June 7 with bacon, eggs, biscuits and camaraderie served! 
• Saluda Dog Park got cleaned up by 20 volunteers (thank you!) and will be expanded in the future. The clean-up is the first phase of a multi-year plan to expand the park to nearly four times its current size, thanks to Polk County Community Foundation, Polk County Appearance Commission, and City of Saluda. The plan includes upgrades and picnic areas for families to enjoy while Fido romps. Bricks for a walkway are being sold to help raise funds, all contributions are needed!
