GREEN CREEK – On Sunday, April 30, a Columbus man was arrested for first degree arson. Byron Allan Born, 37 of Columbus, was booked into the Polk County Detention Center with a $65,000 secured bond.
Polk County deputies responded to the incident after being notified of a verbal domestic dispute in the Green Creek community.
Upon arriving, deputies were informed that Born was arguing with his parents, then went outside and set the house on fire while his parents were still inside. Green Creek Fire Department responded and extinguished the fire.
Once law enforcement was called, Born fled the scene but was later located and taken into custody.
The following day, May 1, Born was charged with communicating threats and resisting a public officer.
Born’s next court appearance is scheduled for Wednesday, May 24.
