TRYON–Tryon Painters and Sculptors held an opening reception Saturday, May 6, at its downtown gallery to celebrate their new All-Member Exhibit featuring guest artist Beth Pullman Regula. The exhibit is entitled, “Elsewhere.”
Regula, based out of Roebuck, S.C., is an extremely well-known and talented artist and the Chair of the Artists Collective of Spartanburg. Her mixed media art pieces are being shown in Tryon for the first time in over eight years. Beth attended Winthrop University and served as a long-time art educator in schools.
She describes her work as realism with a twist. Regula also journals when she works, keeping a record of her thoughts and feelings while she’s creating. Some of her journal entries were available to be read along with the corresponding work of art.
“My pieces begin with something as simple as some string on canvas. I then go over it with epoxy resin which I paint with acrylic,” Regula says of the pieces in the exhibit, which runs through June 10.
“I’m delighted to be here at the Tryon Painters and Sculptors after several years,” Regula adds. “They’ve been so wonderful to me, and they even painted a wall for me, which makes the paintings stand out. It’s truly been a wonderful evening.”
Tryon Painters and Sculptors President Nancy Holland described the exhibit.
“It’s a truly original exhibit, unlike any Tryon has seen in a while,” Holland says. “Beth’s work stands out even in a room full of amazing artists.”
Tryon Painters and Sculptors is located at 78 N. Trade St. in Tryon.
