Polk County soccer coach Lennox Charles reached a milestone Tuesday and nearly did so with a milestone win.
Charles coached the 800th varsity match of his Wolverine career in Tuesday’s 1-0 double-overtime loss to Hendersonville in G.M. Tennant Stadium.
Charles has been Polk County’s girls soccer coach since 2002 and now owns a 283-149-26 record with that program. He also coached Polk’s boys squad from 2002-2016 and posted a 216-108-18 mark.
That’s a combined 499-257-44 mark, a winning percentage of .651. That record includes a state 1A girls championship in 2009 and a state 1A boys championship in 2003.
Charles will again try for his 500th career victory at Polk County on Thursday as the Wolverines host R-S Central for a 6 p.m. match.
