$6.5 million facility will be nation’s largest carbon fiber bicycle factory

 

LANDRUM – On Thursday, TIME Bicycles, a leading carbon fiber bicycle manufacturer, announced plans to begin operations in Landrum, bringing over 100 jobs to the area. 

The company plans to renovate the former Bommer Industries facility, located at 19810 Asheville Hwy. in Landrum. The $6.5 million investment will create the nation’s largest carbon fiber bicycle factory and 105 new jobs. The 140,000-square-foot facility sits on 30 acres along the future Saluda Grade Trail. 

Renovations are expected to begin in April, with operations starting in the fourth quarter of 2023, according to a press release from the company.

TIME, one of Europe’s largest bicycle brands, was founded in 1987. The French company manufactures bikes that have won Olympic gold medals, multiple world championships, the Paris-Roubaix and numerous stages of the Tour de France. 

“After two years of planning, we are thrilled to announce Spartanburg County as the TIME USA factory location,” said TIME Bicycles CEO Tony Karklins. “The infrastructure that exists within this region for advanced manufacturing is unrivaled. Through our collaboration with Clemson University, KraussMaffei and The SC Fraunhofer USA Alliance, we look to produce the most advanced carbon fiber bicycles in the world, with technologies and partnerships in place to rival production out of Asia.”

South Carolina Gov. Henry McMaster applauded the company’s investment in the state.
