POLK COUNTY-The Polk County Board of Commissioners approved the sale of retiring K9 Jumper during its meeting on Monday.
The K9’s handler, Deputy Dakota Thomas is moving to the eastern part of North Carolina. K9s are usually trained on one handler and kept with that handler throughout their entire career.
Polk County Sheriff’s Office asked for the sale of the K9 to Thomas be added to the Board of Commissioners’ agenda for approval.
“I do wish him well. He was a great employee. I hate losing him, but I understand the family circumstances take precedence,” Polk County Sheriff Tim Wright told the commissioners.
“He did a stand up job for us, and he and the K9 developed this bond.”
The motion to sell K9 Jumper was approved unanimously.
