Charges include second degree murder and death by distribution 

 

POLK COUNTY– Polk County Sheriff’s Office detectives and Narcotics Unit deputies have been working together to stop the distribution of illegal drugs in Polk County. 

 

Three arrests have been made in the effort, each one associated with an overdose death that had occurred within the last two years. 

 

Most recently, Damon Lamard Pace, 33 of Spartanburg, was arrested on Friday, February 3. Pace was charged with second degree murder and aggravated death by distribution as a result of an overdose death that occurred on May 6, 2022. He is currently being held at the Polk County Detention Center under a $300,000 secured bond with his next court date being February 22, 2023.

 

Additionally, previous arrests were made regarding the tragic overdose deaths of two other Polk County citizens.

 

Lamar Eugene Cannady, 49 of Rutherfordton, was charged with second degree murder as a result of an overdose death that occurred on September 3, 2020. He is currently being held at the Polk County Detention Center under a $400,000 secured bond with his next court date being April 24, 2023.

 

Damon Mandell Mobley, 45 of Hendersonville, was charged with death by distribution as a result of an overdose death that occurred on August 25, 2021. He is currently being held at the Polk County Detention Center under a $80,000 secured bond with his next court date being February 28, 2023. 

“Polk County Sheriff’s Office Detectives along with the Narcotics Unit have been working together around the clock to get these drug dealers off the street,” said Polk County Sheriff Tim Wright on Thursday morning. “It is unfortunate that we had to wait until the autopsy reports come back before charging in these cases, but we want to do everything in our power to ensure justice for our victims.”

 

There are still investigations pending on other overdose deaths, according to Sheriff Wright.
