Landrum basketball teams go undefeated for the week

LANDRUM – The Landrum Cardinals Varsity Boys and Girls teams continued their winning ways with an undefeated week, sweeping a pair of road games against Region rivals Greenville Tech Charter and Greer Middle College.
Landrum Varsity Boys continued their undefeated streak in their Region to take their overall record to 18-3, 5-0, and maintain their #6 ranking in South Carolina AA. Tuesday night on the road, the Cardinals would run away from the Greenville Tech Charter Warriors (6-7, 2-3) for a 73-52 victory. The Cardinals would have four players score in double figures, with Franklin Davis leading the way with 16 points, followed by Bennett Edwards with 15, and Mario and Marc Gonzalez with 14 apiece.
Friday night, the Cards held off a late push from the Greer Middle College Blazers (10-10, 4-1) 57-44 to take over sole possession of first place in the Region. Once again, Franklin Davis would lead the way with an impressive performance scoring 29 while grabbing seven rebounds and five steals.
Landrum Lady Cardinals went 2-0 on the road this week to push their record to 13-5 overall and 4-1 in AA Region 1. Last Tuesday, The Lady Cards went on the road to defeat Greenville Tech Charter’s Lady Warriors (7-6, 2-3) 49-32. Junior Kaylee Cortez dominated with 33 points going 12-20 from the foul line while adding six two-point baskets and three from three-point range.
Lady Cardinals ran away from Greer Middle College Lady Blazers (3-17, 1-4) 68-32 in their second game of the week Friday night. Freshman Kylie Fortner would lead the way in scoring with 25 points, followed by Cortez with 19. Junior Savannah Brown filled her stat line with 6 points, ten rebounds, two blocks, and two steals. The Landrum Varsity Girls currently sit in second place in their conference, one game behind 5-0 Blacksburg.
Both squads begin five-game stretches to wrap up their regular seasons with home matchups Tuesday night versus Liberty before heading on the road to face Chesnee Friday night. The Varsity Girls’ games tip off at 6:00 pm, with the boys starting afterward at approximately 7:30 p.m.
