POLK COUNTY – The Polk Country Parks and Recreation are looking for volunteers to help with working on several local hiking trails in the area.
The work will take place on Fridays with the upcoming dates of December 2 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at the Recreation Complex, December 9 at Alexander Ford in Mill Spring, and December 16 at the ICC Library Loop. There will be no trail clean-up days on December 23 and 30.
Volunteers are encouraged to work in groups, but are asked to practice social distancing if an area becomes crowded. Volunteers are asked to walk the trails, picking up trash and moving small branches that may impede the pathways. Parks and Recreation ask volunteers not to cut any branches or attempt to lift anything too bulky or heavy. If it a trail is in need of more attention, please email trails@polknc.org, who will take care of it or bring it to the trail manager’s attention.
A majority of trails, when they are open, do not have public facilities that are open, so it is good to plan ahead of time. It is also asked that all dogs are kept on a leash on the hiking trails, and everyone take their trash with them when they leave.
There will also be no trail meeting in December, with the next one taking place on January 23 at 6 p.m. at Saluda Outfitters. The Parks and Recreation offices will be closed for the holidays from December 26 through January 3.
