High school teacher charged last week for indecent liberties with a student
POLK COUNTY – On Tuesday, November 15, Polk County High School business education teacher John Brian Taylor was arrested and charged with indecent liberties with a student, according to Polk County Sheriff’s Office. As of press time, there are no new details related to the ongoing investigation.
A statement was released by Polk County Schools Superintendent Aaron Greene on Monday night explaining the release of information in a school setting.
“We’re obligated to protect the rights and privacy of all students and staff,” Greene said in the statement. “Sharing things about specific students, staff, or investigations may not only violate law or policy, it can also negatively impact the investigative process.”
“I want to be clear that Polk County Schools works hard to address every report and incident quickly, and according to law and policy. We encourage people to say something when they have information, and we follow up thoroughly on any reports we receive.”
Taylor, 49, was released soon after his arrest on a $50,000 secured bond. He is scheduled to appear in court on Wednesday, December 7.
The Bulletin broke the news of Taylor’s arrest last Tuesday, and will share updates on the case as soon as they are available.
