‘Wheels are in motion’ for seasonal market to debut this November
LANDRUM––This November, the Landrum Market Pavilion is transitioning from their summer farmers market to a holiday market called Winter Market and Holiday Craft Fair.
Lisa Gunter, Volunteer Manager of Landrum Farmers Market, says that last year when the market was on North Trade Avenue, they had great support from the farm vendors.
Gunter says they went to the City Council for permission to continue the market past October, and they agreed.
“So we offered it back to the vendors this year and got good feedback from them. The wheels are set in motion,” she says. There are 57 vendor spots in the new building, and their goal is to fill them all. Presently, there are a good number of vendors who plan to participate, selling produce such as sweet potatoes, beets, ginger, and other vegetables that grow in cooler weather. The vendors will be supplemented with crafters.
Gunter says they want to try to do some holiday activities for children and make the weekly market as family friendly and fun as possible.
“We might even get Santa to come for the kids,” she shares. “We’re trying to maybe get a Christmas tree vendor. Because the market is a producer’s market, we’ll have to find a Christmas tree vendor who’s willing to make the trek and do it.”
The Winter Market and Holiday Craft Fair will be open from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. for the first three Saturdays of November and the first three Saturdays of December. The market will not be open the week of Thanksgiving, and it will close by Christmas.
