COLUMBUS – William John Stein of Columbus, passed away, Sunday morning, July 17, 2022 at Tryon Estates.
Bill loved travel and especially learning about other cultures, their traditions and music. He always had a funny story or joke to tell (sometimes you just had to patiently wait until he got to the punchline). He had a generous heart with a huge capacity to love; a kind soul and a deep love of God. Most of all he had a joy for life, friends and fellowship. His was a life well-lived.
Preceded in death by sons William Robert Stein and Andrew Edward Stein, and (second) wife Lina Stein.
Very much dearly loved father, hero, problem solver, sage advisor, and best friend to daughter Lisa Ellen Stein. Proud older brother to Dr. Robert H. Stein and his much loved and admired wife, Joan Stein. Uncle to Julie Stein Adamson, Keith Stein, and Stephen Stein, and a convocation of great (and greater) nieces and nephews.
Words are not enough to describe the kindness and love that was given every day by the amazing caregivers of Tryon Estates and Four Seasons Hospice. May the love and kindness you have given us come back to you tenfold.
Ich liebe dich so sehr, Papa, schlaf gut.

I see trees of green
Red roses too
I see them bloom
For me and you
And I think to myself
What a wonderful world
I see skies of blue
And clouds of white
The bright blessed day
The dark sacred night
And I think to myself
What a wonderful world
The colors of the rainbow
So pretty in the sky
Are also on the faces
Of people going by
I see friends shaking hands
Saying, “How do you do?”
They’re really saying
“I love you”
I hear babies cry
I watch them grow
They’ll learn much more
Than I’ll never know
And I think to myself
What a wonderful world
Yes, I think to myself
What a wonderful world
Oh yeah
