Festival begins with a 5K and ends with a street dance this Saturday
SALUDA––The 59th Annual Coon Dog Day Festival will be held downtown Saluda this Saturday, July 9.
The fun kicks off at 8 a.m. with the Coon Dog Day 5K through town. An 11 a.m. parade is the highlight of the day.
Rock N Roll Reunion with Tom Crabtree will perform from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., followed by a Street Dance from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m.
Of course, coon dogs are the stars of the day! The American Kennel Club licensed coon dog show will be held at the pavilion at McCreery Park at 2:30 p.m., with the treeing contest immediately following.
Coon Dog Day in Saluda started in 1963 as a fundraiser chicken supper for the local coon clubs. It is known throughout the area as a “celebration of dogs and their people” and serves to present this old mountain tradition to the public as well as a homecoming for Saluda natives.
This is an all-ages, family-friendly event. Admission is free.
