COLUMBUS––The Foothills Humane Society is making an effort to give back to the community and keep the area clean from litter. They recently spent a Saturday picking up trash along Little Mountain Road in Columbus.
FHS partnered with NCDOT (North Carolina Department of Transportation) and had a crew of 10 volunteers to help clean the roadside. The Humane Society adopted from NCDOT a portion of Little Mountain Road, which connects Peniel Road and Landrum Road.
Volunteers from the Humane Society spent 3 hours picking up litter and gathered 14 bags of trash.
General Manager Pat Staggs says this is something they try to do quarterly.
“It’s just something that we can do to give back to the community and give back to our little area. Obviously, every day we drive in on that little road, and it’s just important to us that we try to keep that area clean,” he says.
