Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

September may seem far away, but time goes quickly and preparations for the 2022-2023 Season for Tryon Little Theater are underway. The first production will be the opener Pump Boys and Dinettes, played on the Tryon Fine Arts Center stage. And this is where you come in – people are needed to audition!

The musical revolves around four men (L.M., Jackson, Jim, and Eddie) who work at a gas station, and two waitresses (sisters Prudie and Rhetta Cupp) who work next door at the Double Cupp Diner, located on Highway 57, somewhere between Frog Level and Smyrna, North Carolina. The play is set in the 50s, and there’s a lot of singin’ and playin’ different genres of music, from country-western, to pop and blues.

Director Carol Cox is looking for 10 to 15 people for the show. “They must be lively, energetic singers, and although playing an instrument is a bonus, it is not required,” she says. “There’s some dancing involved, but more movement than actual dance steps, so I don’t want people to be put off if they think they can’t dance!”

Pam McNeil is the Musical Director and requests that each person be prepared to sing 16 measures of a lively song, and please bring your own music! This show will be so much fun to do – and TLT can’t wait for the new season to start off with a bang,” she says.

Pump Boys and Dinettes will open September 22, and close September 25 – one weekend only.  Auditions will be held at the TLT Workshop (516 S. Trade St. in Tryon) on July 31 at 3:00 p.m., and August 1 at 7:00 p.m.
