Tryon Arts & Crafts School recently kicked off the summer season with the first of the “Westside Mixers,” a monthly outdoor event series held on the second Fridays of the month. The school is gearing up for the next Mixer, which will be held Friday, July 8, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Each event includes live music, art demonstrations, youth crafts, and lawn games at no charge to the community. Food and beverages are available for purchase.
The June 10 event was attended by over 200 people and a successful “friendraiser” thanks to The Trophy Husbands’ musical entertainment, dinners by Rural Seed Restaurant, cold treats by Frozen Frog food truck, the volunteer-led pottery sale, ceramics demonstrations by Jim Cullen, Ann Gleason, Susan McDade, Leigh Nodine, and Reid Coyner, and the help of 50 volunteers.
Lovers of a good time in the outdoors are welcome to pull up their lawn chairs and lay out their blankets on Friday, July 8. Mercury Rising Band – Deborah and Irving Comancho, Jay Lichty, and Stan Halbkat – will set the tone. MRB is known for their “soulful warm Americana and blues-style original songs that spark the heart.”
Attendees should bring their appetites. Just a Smile Caribbean food truck and Frozen Frog food truck will each offer a menu of signature dishes and non-alcoholic beverages. TACS will sell wine and beer.
A world-class panel of woodworking demonstrators will be on hand turning, burning, gripping, and chipping. Demonstrators include Cynthia Gibson (wood burning), Mark Hancock (woodturning), Mike Burger (guitar making), Richard Grzybowski (hand carving), and Fred Herres (furniture making).
The Lead Sponsor of the Westside Mixers is New View Realty. TACS also recognizes sponsor G.L. Drew Knives and the volunteers of the Rotary Club of Tryon.
