Tryon’s Auxillary Post 250 offers poppy flowers, accepts donations on behalf of local veterans
FOOTHILLS––The Friday before Memorial Day, the American Legion Auxiliary Post 250 from Tryon set up tables around the community to take donations in remembrance of those who lost their lives in the military.
Jane Stout, Auxiliary President, says that every year, the Friday before Memorial Day, the American Legion offers poppy flowers in memoriam of soldiers who lost their lives, and they take donations that go toward veterans and their families.
“All funds are used locally,” Stout says.
All branches of the military were spotted around the community on Friday, gathering donations.
The sign on the American Legions’ tables read, “Wear a Poppy with Pride.” The poppy flower symbolizes the remembrance of WWI, as poppies were a common sight in the landscapes where parts of the first world war took place.
They are worn on Memorial Day to represent and honor those who sacrificed their lives for America’s freedom.
