Tryon Fine Arts Center (TFAC) presents Poetry Under the Stars on May 24 at 7 p.m. in the Peterson Amphitheater.
Few places on earth inspire writers like the mountains and foothills of North Carolina, and nowhere will you find a group of poets more dedicated to exploring life through poetry. Poets performing original, and in many instances award-winning poetry, during this event, include Kathy Ackerman, Skye Barkschat, Donna Beal, Nancy Holmes, Greg Lobas, Lee Mink, and Lee Stockdale.
Poet Lee Mink says, “The first time you read or listen to a poem, just feel it. Poetry at its best speaks directly to your heart. Poetry is the language of the soul.” Poet Donna Beal added, “Poetry is an experience. Experience it.”
TFAC Executive Director Marianne Carruth says, “We’re so happy to be able to present our local poets again. Before the pandemic, they were regular favorites.”
Awards recently earned by participating poets include the North Carolina Poetry Society’s Lena Shull Book Prize, awarded to Kathy Ackerman for her collection “A Quarrel of Atoms.” Kathy states, “The poet Toi Dericotte reminds us, ‘Joy is an act of resistance.’ Poetry brings me joy. Reading it. Writing it. Living it.”
Visit TFAC on Tuesday May 24 at 7 p.m. for Poetry Under the Stars – you’re sure to be engaged, delighted, entertained, and transported – under the stars. Beer & wine will be offered for sale. In case of bad weather, the event will be moved inside. Tickets are $10 per person and available at www.tryonarts.org/events or call TFAC at 828-859-8322, Tuesday – Friday from 10 AM – 4 PM.
