For horse enthusiasts, hound fans and BBQ lovers, the weekend could not be more perfect–– and it is all happening at the Foothills Equestrian Nature Center (FENCE) in Tryon and hosted by the Tryon Riding & Hunt Club (TR&HC).  It all starts at 8 a.m. Saturday, April 23. 

 

“This weekend is special in several ways” says Angie Millon, TR&HC president.  “First is the return of its historic Hound Show starting at 8 a.m. The first Hound Show was held in 1926, so we are extremely excited to be rejuvenating this local tradition. At the same time, the Horse show competitions will feature lovely courses and great competition in kids and adult classes throughout Saturday. Sunday features three derbies offering cash prizes and will test both horse and riders’ skill.”

 

Hound committee chairman Terry Lynch adds, “The response to the Hound Show has been exciting! Eight hound packs including our local packs Tryon Hounds, Green Creek Hounds and Goodwin Hounds as well as Clubs throughout the Southeast will be showing off the best of the best hounds. While this is an unsanctioned show, it fits nicely just before the bigger sanctioned shows take place in May, and it is the fist time our three local packs will be in the ring at the same time.”

 

The Carter Brown BBQ, a long standing TR&HC tradition will begin at 5 p.m.  

 

Millon explains, “I encourage people to come and watch the Hound Show and the Horse Show and be there early to enjoy the BBQ. We will have plenty of food, but the service will shut down when the food runs out. The weekend promises to be great entertainment for everyone whether you are competing or just being a spectator. Join us!”
