Unexpected sleet and hail showered over the area
FOOTHILLS––Last weekend brought unexpected weather to the area, including sleet and hail.
While temperatures were warm last week, the sudden cold front that swept in on Saturday delivered uncalled-for hail and sleet.
Landrum residents reported on April 9 hail showering over their cars, stating they were driving along North Blackstock Rd. when hail started to bounce off their windshield.
Polk County residents also claimed to witness sleet showers. These sudden weather conditions on Saturday were not forecasted, which had some community members scratching their heads.
Average April temperatures in this area are between 52 and 75 degrees. Though hail forms during thunderstorms in any season, Saturday’s forecast was dry and overcast, with no storms.
