Airstream Camper event sponsored by TDDA
TRYON––Beginning on March 31, Trot into Tryon rolled into town and will be at Harmon Field until April 3.
Tryon Downtown Development Association (TDDA) and The Carolinas Airstream Club are sponsoring this event that will take place at Harmon Field, which started on Thursday afternoon. The Carolina Airstreamers stage rallies in small towns for the purpose of boosting the local economy by exploring businesses and restaurants.
On Thursday, TDDA volunteers and the Town of Tryon crew greeted the Airstream campers, assigned them numbers and got them lined up in proper order. Each camper was given a welcome bag that included a guide to downtown Tryon, brochures and sample merchandise.
Mayor Alan Peoples greeted the campers, who were later treated to a BBQ supper.
On Friday morning, the Airstreamers were treated to coffee and breakfast in the log cabin at Harmon Field.
Around 9 a.m., the Tryon Fire Department and the Tryon Police Department escorted a Trot into Tryon parade of over 25 units into downtown.
During Friday and Saturday, the Airstream campers had open doors so the community could explore the campers.
Paige Henderson, member of the TDDA, says that Tryon businesses and local venues are having special events to welcome the club, including a special screening at the movie theater and an open house at Lanier Library.
She says, “The TDDA is grateful to the town staff for all the logistical support to make this happen. The occupants will dine and shop downtown the entire weekend, which will have a real economic impact during a slower time of year for us.”
Henderson also says that locals are invited to tour the travel trailers and enjoy their unique character during this weekend event.
