Prescription drug assistance available for low-income Medicare beneficiaries
Polk County Senior Services is partnering with The Meeting Place SHIIP volunteers to help seniors enroll in a federal program to help with prescription costs.
Medicare beneficiaries who have limited incomes and assets may be eligible for Extra Help to pay for their prescription drugs. The federal Low-Income Subsidy (LIS) program, also known as Extra Help, assists qualified Medicare beneficiaries with out-of-pocket expenses associated with Medicare Part D prescription drugs.
The Meeting Place Senior Center is holding an event to educate people about the Extra Help program and help eligible Medicare beneficiaries enroll on Monday April 11, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., at the Columbus Library Community Room, located at 1289 W. Mills St. in Columbus.
There are more than 80,000 Medicare beneficiaries in North Carolina who may be eligible for help but have yet to apply. SHIIP, the Seniors’ Health Insurance Information Program and a division of the NC Department of Insurance, is joining with partners around the state to help beneficiaries understand and apply for Extra Help.More information is available at www.ncshiip.com.
