There are less than 4 weeks until the Airstream Campers come to Tryon. To date, twenty-six units have registered for the Urban Rally, Trot into Tryon, sponsored by The Carolinas Airstream Club, TDDA and The Town of Tryon.
Campers will roll into town and assemble at Harmon Field on Thursday afternoon, March 31. TDDA volunteers and the Town crew will greet the campers, assign them numbers and get them lined up in proper order. Each unit will be given a Welcome bag that includes a Guide to Downtown Tryon, brochures, sample merchandise and other goodies.
The Airstreamers will camp overnight in Hog Heaven, across the bridge from the open air basketball court. There is no more beautiful spot from which to enjoy our local mountains. After a Welcome by Mayor Alan Peoples, the campers will be treated to a fine local BBQ at supper. While they are having supper and socializing they will be entertained by the wonderful and talented kids of PAC Jam. They will be very impressed with Tryon before they even get to downtown.
On Friday morning, the Airstreamers will be treated to coffee and pastries in the log cabin. After the school traffic dies down, The Tryon Fire Department and the Tryon Police Department officers will escort a Trot into the Tryon Parade of all these units into downtown. The parade will be led by none other than Morris the Horse.
Everyone is encouraged to line the streets around 9:00 a.m. on Friday to give these visitors a big welcome. The group will headquarter at the Tryon Depot Room where they will have a club meeting before they hit the streets.
All during Friday and Saturday the campers will have open doors so you can go in and see what this phenomenon is all about. The people who have Airstreams are always willing to share their love for these American iconic units and their experiences.
The Carolina Airstreamers, along with similar clubs across the country, stage these urban rallies in small towns for the purpose of boosting the local economy. They come with the intention of patronizing all the businesses and restaurants as they explore the charming downtowns. All of our downtown merchants have been busy preparing for this event. TDDA is excited to offer this boost to our local merchants and restaurants.
Please bring your family and friends downtown on both days. There will be live music and shops will be open later than usual for the weekend. This is a great way to kick off April after an endless gray spell.
